Inside Wire Maintenance Plan
Customer premises inside wiring, the telephone wiring inside the customers home, was deregulated by the Federal Communications Commission on January 1, 1987. At that time all telephone companies were allowed to begin charging a monthly fee to maintain such wiring or the customer could assume responsibility for the maintenance and pay no monthly fee. Moundville Telephone Company, however, chose to continue to maintain all inside wiring at no additional charge to its customers over this twelve-year period. Regrettably, we can no longer continue this practice and are offering our customers a choice of one of the two following plans.
In accordance with the FCC order each customer must positively select from the following two options regarding service and maintenance of inside telephone wire
Option 1 - Inside Wire Maintenance Plan
Effective August 1, 2007, this Option also covers damage to MTC DSL modems caused by electrical surge.
Moundville Telephone Company will maintain and service all standard inside wire and jacks on the customer's premises, regardless of who originally installed the wiring. The monthly fee applies to each access line terminating at any given location. If Option 1 is selected, the customer is not liable for any charges related to trouble isolation or repair of standard inside wire and jacks (plan does not cover Key Systems, PBX's, or other non-basic telephone system). Option 1 is available at a monthly fee of $2.95 per access line. The Company will notify the customer in writing not less than 30 days prior to any change. You may cancel the service at any time.
Option 2 - Customer Assumes Responsibility
If you do not wish for Moundville Telephone Company to maintain your inside wire you must select Option 2. If you, as the customer, choose to be responsible for maintaining your inside wiring and jacks you have three options:
- You can make the necessary repairs yourself.
- You can hire an outside agent (i.e. contractor of electrician) to do the repairs.
- You can have Moundville Telephone Company make the repairs based on an hourly rate. The current charges for such service are $25.00 for the first fifteen minutes and $10.00 for each additional 15 minutes. These charges are subject to change without notice and are available by calling the business office.
